For the discerning homeowner in Scarsdale, NY, off-the-shelf window treatments are simply not an option. Your home’s distinctive architecture demands a more considered approach—a solution that honors the unique scale and character of your property. Mass-produced products cannot adequately address the soaring windows and sophisticated interiors common in our community. What is required is a truly bespoke process, uniting expert design consultation, premium materials, and flawless, professional installation.
Dressing The Grand Windows of Your Scarsdale Home
The magnificent estates in neighborhoods like Fox Meadow and Heathcote often feature stunning, double-height windows that present a unique design challenge. We understand that standard solutions lack the presence to match the scale and elegance of these spaces. At Westchester Window Fashions, our entire focus is creating custom window treatments meticulously crafted to elevate these grand interiors, not just cover a window.
This guide serves as your personal resource for transforming your home. We will explore how professionally designed drapery, shades, and shutters can masterfully manage light, guarantee privacy, and amplify your home’s architecture. We will move past generic advice to provide insights specific to the architectural styles we serve daily in Scarsdale, from classic Colonials near Wayside Cottage to the stately Tudors in Crane Berkley.
A Focus on White-Glove Service
Our philosophy is centered on delivering a ‘Perfect Fit’. This is more than a measurement; it is a comprehensive white-glove service that combines impeccable design with a meticulous, professional installation from concept to completion. We recognize Scarsdale as a premier community for families, which is why we are committed to providing solutions that are as safe as they are beautiful.
Here are a few key considerations we address for Scarsdale homes:
- Scale and Proportion: For oversized windows, we ensure treatments complement the room’s aesthetic rather than overwhelming it. For example, a single, automated roller shade can provide a minimalist look for a wall of glass, maintaining the view.
- Child Safety: We integrate advanced cordless and motorized systems from trusted brands like Hunter Douglas and Alta Window Fashions, creating a sleek, hazard-free environment for your family.
- Smart Home Integration: For hard-to-reach windows in a two-story great room, we provide effortless control with systems from Lutron and Somfy, integrating them seamlessly into your existing smart home network.
- Northeast Climate Control: We help you select materials with high R-values that offer superior insulation—retaining heat during cold winters and blocking solar gain in the summer.
We personally manage every detail, from the initial precise measurement to the final turn of the screwdriver, ensuring your vision is realized to perfection.
Actionable Design Tip: Before your design consultation, photograph the rooms you wish to address at different times of day. This simple step helps our designers understand how natural light moves through your space, enabling us to recommend the ideal materials for both light filtering and UV protection.
Mastering Light and Scale with Floor-to-Ceiling Custom Drapery
The soaring, dramatic windows in many Scarsdale homes are an architectural centerpiece, demanding an equally impressive treatment. This is where floor-to-ceiling custom drapery excels. It is more than a window covering; it is a powerful design statement that draws the eye upward, accentuating a room’s height while adding a layer of warmth and sophistication.
For the expansive great rooms and master suites common in neighborhoods like Fox Meadow and Heathcote, custom drapery brings a soft, tailored elegance unattainable with off-the-shelf curtains. We guide our clients through a curated selection of high-end fabrics and hardware to completely transform their space. Increasingly, discerning homeowners are investing in custom, professionally installed solutions, particularly for drapery and motorized shades where fit and function are paramount, as confirmed by market analysis. You can read more about these market trends and their drivers.
Choosing The Right Fabric and Style
Selecting materials suited to our Northeast climate is a technical decision we guide you through. The right fabric offers tangible benefits far beyond aesthetics.
- Thermal Insulation: We recommend high-quality, lined drapery to act as an effective thermal barrier, retaining heat during Westchester’s winters and helping to reduce energy costs.
- UV Protection: Our performance fabrics can block up to 99% of harmful UV rays, protecting your fine furnishings, artwork, and hardwood floors from sun damage.
- Aesthetic Harmony: The pleat style is as critical as the fabric. A modern Ripplefold pleat creates clean, uniform waves ideal for contemporary homes, while a classic Pinch Pleat lends a more traditional, formal elegance to historic Tudor-style residences.
Our professional measurement and installation process is the final, critical element. We guarantee a flawless result that hangs perfectly, framing your views of the lush Scarsdale landscape. If you are interested in creating a more layered design, you can explore our guide on layering shades and curtains for a designer look. Our team manages every detail to ensure the final result is breathtaking.
Actionable Design Tip: For double-height living rooms, we often recommend layering sheer drapery with opaque panels. This combination offers ultimate flexibility—filtering soft, natural light during the day while providing complete privacy and light control in the evenings.
Effortless Elegance with Motorized Shades
In the beautiful homes of Scarsdale, grand features like two-story foyers, skylights, and dramatic Palladian windows are part of the charm. They also present a challenge: managing light and privacy for windows that are simply out of reach. This is precisely where motorized shades provide a solution, blending sophisticated technology with effortless living.
We specialize in integrating top-tier motorization systems from industry leaders like Hunter Douglas, Lutron, and Somfy. These are not mere add-ons; they are designed to merge seamlessly with your existing smart home platform. With a remote, a tap on your phone, or a voice command, you can adjust every shade in perfect, silent unison.
Smart Control Beyond Convenience
The true value of motorized shades extends beyond convenience. They offer significant gains in energy efficiency—a major benefit for navigating Westchester’s distinct seasons. For example, you can program your shades to automatically lower during the hottest part of a summer afternoon, blocking solar heat and reducing the load on your air conditioning. In winter, they can open to capture passive solar warmth, naturally heating your home.
Our team ensures a flawless, discreet installation that preserves your home’s design integrity. We focus on critical details:
- Ultra-Quiet Motors: The latest motors operate at a whisper, so the peaceful ambiance of your home is never disturbed.
- Discreet Power Options: For situations where hardwiring is not ideal, we offer advanced battery-powered solutions that eliminate the need for complex wiring into pristine millwork.
- Precision Calibration: Our expert installers painstakingly calibrate each shade for perfect alignment and smooth operation, guaranteeing a uniform, polished look across even the widest banks of windows.
For Scarsdale homeowners, motorization is a practical necessity for managing light and privacy in grand spaces. It transforms a daily chore into an elegant, automated experience. You can learn more about the seven primary reasons why you should motorize your window treatments in our detailed guide. We handle every technical detail, ensuring your system is perfectly integrated from day one.
Actionable Design Tip: Program your motorized shades to a “scene” within your smart home system. A “Welcome Home” scene, for instance, could automatically lower the shades in your two-story foyer to 50% as the sun sets, creating an inviting, perfectly lit atmosphere the moment you arrive.
Combining Uncompromising Safety and Style
For Scarsdale families, creating a home that is both beautiful and safe is paramount. In high-end design, dangling window treatment cords are more than a visual distraction; they are a known hazard for young children and pets. This is why we are passionate about providing advanced cordless and automated solutions that deliver complete peace of mind without sacrificing style.
We partner with premier brands like Hunter Douglas and Alta Window Fashions to offer sophisticated systems that eliminate cords entirely. This reflects a major shift in homeowner preferences toward smart automation and high-performance fabrics. You can discover more about these evolving homeowner preferences and see how safety and technology are leading the market.
The Modern Look of Cordless Design
Beyond the critical safety benefits, a cordless design offers a superior aesthetic. It creates a clean, uncluttered, and modern look that allows your home’s beautiful architecture and views to take center stage. This streamlined appearance makes a significant impact, especially in family-focused spaces like playrooms and bedrooms.
We apply this principle in practical ways for our clients:
- Nurseries and Children’s Rooms: For these spaces, we often recommend cordless Hunter Douglas Duette® Honeycomb Shades. Their simple push-up/pull-down LiteRise® mechanism is intuitive and completely cord-free, while their cellular structure offers a high R-value for excellent year-round insulation.
- Family Rooms and Play Areas: For high-traffic zones, Alta’s cordless lift Roman shades provide a soft, elegant look with durable, child-safe operation, filtering light beautifully without hazardous loops or cords.
Today’s automated shades offer modern control options that blend safety with total convenience.
These options—from a sleek remote to a smartphone app or voice command—demonstrate how seamlessly safety and modern living integrate.
Automation: The Ultimate Safety Upgrade
For the highest level of safety and functionality, Hunter Douglas PowerView® Automation is an exceptional choice. This system not only eliminates cords but also allows you to schedule your shades to move automatically throughout the day, providing perfect privacy and light control without any manual interaction. Our professional installation ensures these systems are integrated flawlessly for a “Perfect Fit.”
Actionable Design Tip: In a child’s bedroom or playroom, cordless cellular shades are an ideal choice. Their honeycomb structure offers excellent insulation to keep the room comfortable, and the inherent cordless design is the safest option available for these important spaces.

Why a Professional Consultation is Essential for Luxury Homes
For the grand-scale architecture of Scarsdale’s finest homes, generic products simply cannot account for the oversized windows, unique details, and specific design requirements of estates from Fox Meadow to Heathcote. A successful outcome requires precision, deep technical knowledge, and an expert eye for high-end design.
