We recently completed a sophisticated window treatment installation featuring motorized blackout roller shades and ripple fold drapery in Rye, NY. This dual-layered solution provides the perfect balance of daytime privacy and total nighttime darkness for a luxury bedroom overlooking a private patio.
Westchester Window Fashions recently partnered with a homeowner in Rye, NY, to transform a primary bedroom suite. Located in a beautiful neighborhood near the Rye Nature Center, the client needed a versatile solution for a large window bank overlooking their rear patio.
The design called for a layered approach. We installed custom ripple fold drapery in a light-filtering fabric. This “roll pleat” style allows natural light to softly illuminate the room during the day while maintaining complete privacy from the patio area. However, for sleep quality, the client required total darkness. To achieve this, we integrated motorized blackout roller shades by Graber. These shades offer seamless automation, allowing the homeowners to transition from “scenic view” to “blackout mode” with a single tap or voice command.
By combining the soft aesthetic of high-end fabric with the precision of Graber’s motorization technology, we delivered a project that is as functional as it is beautiful.
In Westchester coastal towns like Rye, managing shifting light throughout the seasons is crucial. While many homeowners love the look of drapery, adding a motorized blackout layer is a game-changer for energy efficiency and sleep hygiene. We recommend ripple fold drapery for modern Rye homes because the consistent S-curve folds provide a clean, architectural look that complements both contemporary and transitional interiors. Always ensure your motorization is compatible with your home automation system (like Control4 or Lutron) for maximum convenience.
Q: Can I add motorized blackout shades to windows that already have existing drapery?
A: Yes! As seen in our Rye project, we frequently perform “layered” installations. We can mount motorized roller shades inside the window frame while your decorative drapery hangs outside the frame, providing both aesthetic beauty and functional light control.
