Motorized Woven Wood Shade for a Multi-Purpose Room in Chappaqua, NY

A motorized woven wood shade gave this multi-purpose room in Chappaqua, NY the flexibility it had been missing. Part den, part office, and part guest room, the space needed true room darkening when family or friends stay over, and a softer, more finished feel the rest of the time. Westchester Window Fashions designed one treatment that does both.

Woven wood was a natural fit for a room with three identities. The fibers add depth without pattern, so the shade reads as furniture rather than equipment, and it layers easily with whatever the room becomes next.

Choosing a Motorized Woven Wood Shade in Chappaqua, NY

The room’s tall window was the starting point. A motorized woven wood shade brings natural texture and warmth that suits a den, and it filters daylight gently during working hours. Because of the window’s height, we motorized the shade so it raises and lowers at the touch of a button. There are no cords, nothing hanging down the face of the window, and no reaching over furniture to adjust it.

To make the room genuinely guest-ready, we paired the motorized woven wood shade with a blackout liner. The liner moves with the shade and turns the natural weave into a true room darkening treatment, so overnight guests get real darkness and privacy. Raised, the shade keeps its texture and warmth through the day; lowered at night, the room becomes a calm, private place to sleep.

One Room, Three Uses

Multi-purpose rooms ask more of a window treatment than almost any other space. As a home office, this one needed glare control and a background that feels considered on a video call. As a den, it needed softness and texture. As a guest room, it needed darkness on demand. A manual shade would have meant constant reaching and readjusting; motorization lets the room change roles in seconds, and a favorite position can be set once and recalled every time.

The shade is sized to the full height of the window, so even partially lowered it keeps its proportions. The motor is quiet, and the shade travels evenly across the width, which matters on a window this tall: a treatment that moves crookedly or hesitates would be on display every day. Here, the shade glides to the same position every time, whether it is filtering afternoon sun over the desk or closing the room down for the night.

During the consultation, we measured the window, reviewed weave and liner options, and looked at how light moves through the room over the course of the day. We also looked at the view from the street, since a multi-purpose room is still part of how the house presents itself.

The selected weave has enough variation to read as natural fiber rather than a flat panel, and its tone sits comfortably alongside the room’s wood and neutral finishes. The blackout liner is finished on its own, so the shade looks tailored from outside as well.

Small details matter in a room that changes roles: the edge of the liner, the even hem, the way the weave sits when the shade is halfway down.

The result is a room that no longer has to choose between looking good and working hard. The texture of the motorized woven wood shade elevates the den and office every day, the blackout liner makes overnight stays comfortable, and motorization keeps the whole tall window effortless to use.
