Innovative Privacy Solutions with Honeycomb Shades in Rye Brook, NY

Westchester Window Fashions recently assisted new homeowners in Rye Brook, NY, located near the beautiful Crawford Park, in optimizing their second-floor living spaces. The clients wanted to maintain the abundant natural light their new home provided while ensuring total privacy for their bedrooms and bathrooms. After a design consultation, we determined that Honeycomb Shades in Rye Brook, NY, were the ideal solution to meet these multi-functional needs.

We selected Norman Honeycomb Shades in a sophisticated woven linen fabric. This specific material choice adds a soft, organic texture to the room that diffuses harsh sunlight into a warm glow. To solve the privacy dilemma, we utilized the Top-Down Bottom-Up operating system. This feature is particularly effective for 2nd-floor bathrooms and bedrooms, as it allows the homeowners to lower the top of the shade to enjoy direct views of the sky and let in natural light while keeping the bottom portion closed for complete privacy. Beyond aesthetics, these honeycomb shades provide excellent insulation properties, helping to regulate indoor temperatures throughout the varying Westchester seasons.

Expert Local Insight (The “Pro-Tip”)

In Rye Brook’s residential neighborhoods, houses are often positioned in close proximity. For second-story windows, Top-Down Bottom-Up shades are a “pro-move” because they block the line of sight from neighboring homes without making the room feel like a dark box. The cellular structure of the Norman honeycomb also acts as a sound dampener, which is a fantastic secondary benefit for bedrooms located near the Hutchinson River Parkway or high-traffic local areas.

Local FAQ

Q: Why are honeycomb shades recommended for bathrooms? A: Honeycomb shades like the Norman line used in this Rye Brook project offer superior privacy. The woven linen fabric obscures shapes from the outside while the top-down feature allows for steam ventilation and natural light without compromising modesty.

One Shade, Two Kinds of Light

Top-down bottom-up control changes how a room uses daylight. With the bottom rail raised from the sill and the top lowered a few inches, a bedroom keeps its privacy at eye level while the ceiling fills with natural light. In bathrooms, the same arrangement vents steam and brightens the space without giving up modesty. The cellular construction adds a second, quieter benefit: the honeycomb pockets trap air at the glass, taking the edge off winter drafts and summer heat, which matters in a second-floor room that sees full afternoon sun. The woven linen fabric chosen here softens all of that light into a warm, even glow that flatters the room’s finishes.

Honeycomb shades adapt well beyond bedrooms and baths. Light-filtering fabrics suit living spaces where glare is the enemy, while room-darkening cells serve nurseries and media rooms. The top-down bottom-up system pairs with cordless or motorized lifts, so even tall or hard-to-reach windows stay effortless. For this home, one treatment now serves two very different rooms without compromise. Our cellular shades page covers fabrics, cell sizes, and lift options in more detail, and the project gallery shows how they look in real Westchester homes. When you are ready, schedule a consultation — we bring fabric samples, measure every window, and help you choose the combination that fits each room. The shades in this project come from Norman’s Portrait honeycomb collection, a line we reach for often for its fabric range and reliable hardware.
